Product Portfolio.    SMTM currently offers the following products:

Pro SeramKote PT-629 is a Ceramic Polymer Treatment (CPT) specially formulated to react with and modify surfaces of noble metals such as stainless steel, aluminum, and copper-based alloys. The thin layer of clear polysiloxane stabilizes passive oxides that break down in marine and polluted industrial environments. On HVAC systems, operating efficiency is improved by 9-18% and heat exchanger life is extended by at least five years. It also mitigates clogging by mold, dust, and soot. PT-629 can be used to protect all exterior surfaces of HVAC condensing units. It also provides excellent corrosion protection on large evaporators for refrigeration and for building air handlers.

ProSeramKote PT-770 is a Ceramic Polymer Treatment (CPT) specially formulated to modify surfaces of architectural features such as stucco, unglazed tile, painted walls and concrete/concrete pavers with a stain-resistant and mold resistant layer of protection. The treatment renders the surface easy-clean enabling it to be cleaned with tap water dispensed by a hose.  Treated surfaces also resist oil staining, guano, and food spills.

ProSeramKote PT-775 is a higher solids Ceramic Polymer Treatment (CPT) specially formulated to modify surfaces of architectural features such as concrete, masonry, and pavers with a stain-resistant and mold resistant layer of protection. The treatment renders the surface easy-clean enabling it to be cleaned with tap water dispensed by a hose. Treated surfaces also resist oil staining, guano, and food spills.

Universal Surface Treatment (UST) PT-1000 is a 2-step Ceramic Polymer Treatment that is as easy to use as a polish, but provides a much clearer, shinier ceramic micro-coating that lasts over a year between applications. It can be applied to any hard surface indoors or outdoors, and on vehicles for a long-lasting glossy protective treatment. It never yellows and can be refreshed without stripping.  Rain water will generally clean a vehicle coated with PT-1000.  Dust does not build up as quickly and cleans with just water.

Bioxxn™ Wood Sealant is a new Ceramic Polymer Treatment specifically developed to seal treated or untreated wood structures to resist degradation from moisture.  When applied by trained professionals, Bioxxn has been found to physically isolate fungus from its food sources (the wood), moisture and oxygen.  It has also been shown to be far more effective than dilute sealers, stains, and paint in mitigating dock rot due to Salt Kill (see blogs).   This sealing protection is particularly important for CCA/ACQ treated wood used as structural supports for homes, waterfront pier posts and docks. Unlike most paints and pesticides, Bioxxn contains no toxins that can leach into the environment and suffers no degradation by sunlight (UV).

All the above SMTM Ceramic Polymer Treatments are patented, US Patent No. 7,405,006 “Method of Treating Surfaces for Self-sterilization and Microbial Growth Resistance.”  These treatments can be adapted for use in healthcare facilities and medical devices.

BioShield-75™ a safe, 1-part biostatic protectant (effective biocidal action without poisons) that effectively can keep all touched surfaces exceptionally free of bacteria and viruses, including H1N1. Surfaces that can be treated include keyboards, counters, examination tables, medical treatment equipment, faucets, door handles, drawer handles, toilets, shoes, and even pens & clipboards. The product works on paint, plastic, metal, fabric, vinyl, leather, and rubber surfaces. BioShield-75 is so safe that it is even USDA Approved for food preparation and contact surfaces.

Orlando Air Filter (a subsidiary of SMT) is a national distributor of this safe 1-part biostatic protectant.


ProTec-WB PT-120 is a water-based, surface tolerant barrier treatment or pre-treatment formulated to chemically bond with clean, dry metal surfaces. PT-120 is especially effective on steel, even with adherent flash rust. Unlike traditional organic coating systems, abrasive blasting or mechanical tool surface preparation is not required. It dries in minutes, not hours, and can be overcoated immediately with itself, PT-629 CPT or paint. Unlike rust converters, ProTec-WB leaves a thin (up to 2.5 mils per coat) polymer layer that protects the metal from further corrosion. PT-120 is offered in black, haze gray, safety yellow, and tan (special order).

ProTec-HT is a solvent-borne surface tolerant barrier coating rated to 700ºF. It has the same applications as PT-120.

SMTM also offers cleaners and surface pre-treatments especially formulated to enhance surface adhesion.

Importantly, SMTM provides “application systems” consisting of the protocols for using the cleaners and treatments in combinations tailored to the specific substrate, operating environment, and customer performance requirements. Training is offered in the form of technical documents, training videos, and on-site consultation by SMTM staff. For example, we have demonstrated that two applications of PT-120 over distressed, but clean, steel provide an excellent pre-treatment for PT-629 Ceramic Polymer Treatment. The combination of cleaner, pre-treatment, and ceramic treatment is proving to be an easy-to-apply industrial maintenance treatment to preserve steel and other metal structures in offshore marine environments. In summary, the SMTM system involves 1/3 the material and at least 1/3 less surface preparation and curing time than traditional coating systems. The result is a corrosion control treatment that is comparable or superior in performance to marine epoxy coatings at significantly lower application cost and downtime to customers.

Technical Discriminators

The pedigree and technical basis for SMTM Ceramic Polymer Treatments (CPTs) is described in technical papers published in the open literature by SMT’s Technical Director. Briefly stated, CPTs are low viscosity sols of organo-functional silanols applied by conventional means at ambient temperature to clean, dry substrates that form dense, optically clear films of cross-linked polysiloxane. Unlike traditional paints based on organic (carbon-carbon backbones), CPTs are inorganic (silicon-oxygen backbones). SMTM surface treatments chemically bond with properly prepared substrates. Chemical bonding is more reliable and robust than the mechanical bonding achieved by paints. When applied in accordance with patent pending protocols, SMTM CPTs exhibit the following properties:
+ Hydrophobicity and oleophobicity
+ Very low oxygen, ionic, and water vapor permeability
+ Does not break down or yellow when exposed to ultraviolet radiation or high temperatures up to 1200°F (650°C)
+ Impervious to most acids, alkalis, and salts
+ Resistance to mold, fungus, and algae
+ Easy-clean with water, yet unaffected by harsh cleaning chemicals, bleaches, and disinfectants
+ Abrasion resistance

CPTs are provided in 3-part kits that must be blended in the field in strict accordance with Technical Data Sheets. SMTM provides stringent production process controls to produce high quality treatments and offers training for Applicators in the skills needed to reliably mix and apply CPTs. Once trained, SMTM Applicators have reported outstanding performance in applications where no other treatment system is viable. A recent example is treatment of anodized aluminum balcony railings for high-end, high-rise condominiums. Only CPTs have the low viscosity to penetrate and seal crevices and can cure into a non-yellowing corrosion barrier film that survives installation handling.

PT-120 allows treatment of steel substrates where CPTs cannot function alone. SMTM has shown through field testing that PT-120 serves as an excellent, fast drying pre-treatment for application of PT-629 CPT. Unlike CPTs, PT-120 is a 1-part compound that is easy to use. It is non-flammable so that it can be stored aboard off-shore platforms and marine vessels and used to mitigate rusting where traditional paint coatings fail. The only surface preparation required is wire brushing to remove loose rust and degreasing, if necessary.
